Yeah, yeah, there's all that independence stuff, but this weekend, we were celebrating our acceptance into this year's River's Edge Film Festival in scenic Paducah, KY, with not one but two scheduled screenings on August 18th + 19th at the Maiden Alley Cinema. Spread the gospel!
Big thanks to the folks at the Hearts & Minds Film Festival for bestowing CURTAIN CALL with a Director's Award, thus allowing us to call our pride and joy "award-winning" for eons to come! We're practically so legitimate, we could cry.
Following weekend screenings in both Dover and St. Petersburg, we're happy to report acceptances to two additional festivals; the Solstice Film Festival in St. Paul, MN (6/21-6-25), and the Gloria Film Festival in Salt Lake City (8/16-8/26). At this rate, we'll be in California before you can say manifest destiny.
Cheyenne isn't the only talented kid in the Wise household! Coming off a supporting role in a recent Kanye West video, younger brother Cody has just been cast in the role of Simba in the stage musical "The Lion King". Check out the South Philly Review feature on this talented 10-year-old.
We're on a roll, ya'll, with word that CURTAIN CALL has been officially selected to screen at this year's inagural Suncreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, FL, the weekend of May 5-7, with the exact date and time TBD.
This is also the same weekend the film will be screened as part of the Hearts & Minds Film Festival. CURTAIN CALL has been scheduled for a Saturday matinee screening at 11:30AM at the Schwartz Center for the Arts on the campus of Delware State University.
And just like that, the Philly fest is nearly a thing of the past. Sniffles abound, but remember well THE DESCENT, SHAME OF A CITY, and LADY VENGENCE - these were a few of our favorite things, non-CURTAIN CALL division.
Friday night's world premiere was a complete blast, featuring a standing ovation, teary eyes and a stuttering director at the mic. Or at least he thinks he was stuttering. In any event, uplift was in, baby.
Onto Delaware!
Tomorrow, it all begins in Philly with the festival's opening night festivities, but the Wookified crue is already priming the pump for round two, as CURTAIN CALL has been named an official selection of this year's Hearts & Minds Film Festival. Details TBA ya'll!
With t-minus 2 days until Laurence Fishburne blesses us with his presence, the CURTAIN CALL media blitz has begun. Check the posted interview with KYW-3, where director James Doolittle actually refers to himself as a "kept man" with a straight face (if only you could see it).
With t-minus 3 days until the festival kicks into high gear, a new edit of the CURTAIN CALL trailer has been uploaded for mass assessment! All the old stuff with more Jackson's, ya'll!
Professionally bound festival guides have been spotted at TLA Video Stores across the Delaware Valley, and inside, a wonderfully composed rundown of the film by Festival of Independents' curator Scott Johnston. Check it here!

Wookified Productions officially unveils the website for CURTAIN CALL, featuring goods and services as wonderfully low-fi as the documentary itself. Keep it here for news on upcoming screenings, and check out the archives, where the 218 hours of footage that didn't make it into the final edit will unfurl on a bi-weekly basis, providing a more in-depth look at the year spent in the company of this impassioned after-school program.
